Summary

Lecturer George Dimitrakopoulos has received his bachelor degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering and his PhD, from the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) and the University of Piraeus, respectively. Since April 2010 he is with the Harokopion University of Athens (HUA), department of Informatics and Telematics. From 2002 till 2009 he was an adjunct lecturer and senior research engineer at the University of Piraeus, department of Digital Systems, where he worked in several international research projects. From 1998 to 2002 he worked at J. Dimitrakopoulos L.P. (Imports-exports of Industrial Machines). From April to October 2001 he also worked at INTRACOM S.A., in the department of Access and Transmission, on path planning, minilinks and rural networks. His research interests include the design and development of strategies for the optimization of wireless networks based on cognitive networking principles, as well as the design of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) and novel ICT healthcare applications. He can speak English, Italian and German. He is a member of IEEE, of the Technical Chamber of Greece and of the Athens Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI).

Research interests include the design of wireless networks in the sense of developing novel telematics applications. They also include the design and development of strategies for the optimization of wireless networks based on cognitive networking principles. Based on the participation in numerous research and development efforts at an international (European-wide) level, I have been specialized in designing, developing and validating services and applications based on cognitive wireless networks, in the following areas:
• Intelligent transportation systems (ITS), such as: obstacle recognition systems, vehicles’ safety systems, vehicles’ safety management functionality, design and management of car pooling systems, etc.
• Electronic healthcare systems, such as: architecture of cognitive wireless networks for supporting emergency healthcare applications, abstraction wireless access platform for healthcare applications, etc.
• Telecommunication applications, such as: applications for data transmission over heterogeneous and dynamically changing environments, in the context of the Future Internet (FI).
